It’s always exciting and a little bit of a nervous time when you get an update notification on your Windows Phone. It has been a long wait for owners of the HTC 8X on Telstra for some conclusion to the update saga that would get us the latest update for the phone, almost four months after HTC rolled the update put for its unlocked devices. Telstra’s schedule, at its last revision projected that the update would hit phones around the fourth of February, so imagine the surprise I got today when I did my daily check, to get an update notification.
What the update actually was though, is a pre cursor to the final update, it seems to be a version of GDR2, which is not high enough to use the Preview for Developers, to get at least the rest of the OS update, and no firmware from HTC to speak of.
It’s not a huge update, but it took an incredibly long time to apply, at least four hours in my case, so if you think it’s going wrong, or bricked your phone, just leave it on power, and walk away from it and wait[as hard as that is].
