This is a bit of a mystery that appeared on OZBargain on the 22nd, Sunday gone, considering the recent changes to OneDrive by Microsoft, would allow another huge free storage space for Telstra customers.
Taking info from the posted screenshot, which appears to be from Telstra’s internal system, there seems to be an offer that’s too good to refuse in terms of cloud storage available from today. Why it seems to be from the carriers internal systems is references to “siebel” which are behind the scenes systems where staff are notified of service offers.
Telstra’s backend system for a while, has been using Microsoft services, so Live for Mail, and through that you have a Microsoft account that will let you access other services like Office, OneDrive, etc. SO if you have a telstra.com email, bigpond you are hooked into the system. Presently users get the standard free allotment of 15 GB of storage, it may mean that free users who do not take advantage of the offer get their allowance reduced to the measly 5 GB in line with the recent changes to OneDrive.
Looking at the info, you will be able to take advantage of the online storage for 2 years, and hopefully will be offered with the Lumia 950, 950XL when Telstra announce the devices, in what should be the near future.
Reading through the document though, looks like it will be available to consumer Post-Paid Customers and Consumer Bundle Customers. Being one of those customers, I haven’t received any notification as yet, but let’s wait and see.
It’s a unique situation, I do not know of any other carrier that uses Microsoft services in the way that Telstra does. Have you had any word of this yet?
Starting Tuesday 24th November and running through until 2017, all Telstra customers with a fixed line bundle or post-paid mobile will be eligible to receive free an additional 200GB OneDrive storage. Exactly how this can be redeemed is still unclear, but more details will be available for the soft-launch on Tuesday, before their campaign launch just prior to Christmas
