Earlier in the week, Microsoft finally opened pre orders for the Lumia 950 and 950 XL locally. When the devices first popped up for order, they were at the original price reported back in October. Not long after the prices, preorder went up on Tuesday this week, the prices dropped, but not by that much.
The Lumia 950 dropped by a hundred dollars to $999AU, and the Lumia 950XL dropped fifty dollars to $1129AU. Both devices have a projected shipping date of December the 8th. So in less than a month, one of these beauties could be winging their way to you. What if you want to wait to see what carriers and other retail outlets sell the phones for?
As yet we have no formal announcement about who will carry the phones outside of the Microsoft Store, although we know all the usual suspects. Telstra, Optus,VodafoneAU, JB Hifi, Dick Smith and of course Harvey Norman. Of course the carriers may bring their outright prices down with a contract commitment, but I can reveal that initially it looks like retail will be charging full/ very close to full price for both phones.
A source sent me a photo of a Harvey Norman inventory that prices the 950, and 950XL respectively at $998AU and $1127.01AU. There may be a preorder offer, with maybe a bonus included, but it would seem that we will have to wait till next year to see any significant price drops.
