Microsoft has continued to produce a swathe of budget, mid to low range handsets in trying to draw in users to the Windows Phone ecosystem. Users are spoilt for choice at incredibly reasonable prices.
The Lumia 540 is another such device, that has just become available to the Australian market via budget supermarket chain Aldi, only the second Windows Phone that they have delivered. It’s an interesting handset in the sense that it is also the first Lumia released locally to sport a dual sim. [ it supports “dual-sim standby”, which means that while one SIM is in use, the other is in standby.]
5″ 720p IPS display at 294ppi (no clear black)
S200 QC CPU @ 1200MHz
8GB internal storage
Support for 128GB mSD
Replaceable 2200mAh battery
8MP Rear Camera with LED flash
5MP Front Camera
Orange, White and Cyan glossy finish and matte Black finish
Not sure that I would consider this a bargain, although a lot of folks might like the ability to change from a work sim to a personal sim without having to carry separate phones. Considering the Lumia 640 is available for the same price Outright, or with a bonus deal like this one from Optus
which includes 6months Netflix access, 12 months Office 365, and a Nokia MD12 bluetooth speaker.
