The benefits of an unlocked/not carrier branded phone are many, but the best has to be getting updates as soon as they are released. Today there was a HTC Firmware update, no change log provided, but from what I can glean from contacts and around the web, the update mainly addresses managing that mysterious other partition on the phone for devices with lower storage capabilities. That would include the HTC 8S of course, and 8X models with only 8 Gb of storage. The changes were not that large and could easily be missed.
So the firmware was bumped from 20003.401, to 20005.401, and bootloader from 159895 to 162966, and there is really nothing to see otherwise, as far as changes to the OS in general.
What this did give me the chance to do though was to do a cut down video of the update process, it was an afterthought, and I just grabbed another phone and edited the video into the steps of the update.
