Prices went up on the Australian Microsoft Store in the last 24 hours for both of the new Lumia, the 950 and 950XL, and let’s face it, they are not pretty. Respectively, the devices are showing up as AU$1099 and AU$1199, both prices include GST of course.
Considering the current exchange rates, the US Microsoft Store price for the Lumia 950XL, comes in at about AU$885. Even adding 10% for GST, that’s still only AU$950. That seems like a huge hike, and not very promising in terms of uptake of the new devices.
I’m sort of expecting availability to coincide with the new Sydney Microsoft store opening, around November 12, so let’s hope those prices are just placeholders, and will change, come down a little before then. We still have no news about which carriers and retailers will pick up the phones either. Considering their track records, I would expect both Telstra and Optus to pick up one if not both of the phones. Harvey Norman, JB Hifi [Telstra branded] and possibly Dick Smith.
As it looks unlikely that Windows 10 Mobile will not be available for current phones until December, do you think that you will be upgrading to a Windows 10 Mobile device immediately, or will you be umming and ahing?
