Just a quick note to let people know that I have had some database issues in the last couple of days, but it all seems to be resolved now, thanks to the diligent work of my host, GeekStorage. If you do have any issues with error messages, or a page that says site not available, please let me know via the contact form on the site. One of the things that has happened is that as the site gets more popular, I am pushing the memory and CPU limits of my hosting package, and often it will just take a refresh to load the site from these errors. Who would have ever thought that more site views would become a problem?
I’ve decided to put up a site news page because of the big changes that I have made lately, and if you are a regular visitor you may have noticed, not only the re-branding of the site but the redesign as well. Shocking I know, as there has not been a change in the look of the site since 2008, and while I liked having a colourful site, as the theme I use has updated, the custom code behind the site has slowly become redundant.
It was definitely time for a change, clean and easy to read was what I was going for, as well as significantly speeding up the site by reducing plugin usage to the absolute minimum. Finally as well, there is a mobile option in place, that works with IE and Safari browsers, although it may not show on Google Chrome in devices with a 7″ screen and up, but I’m working on that. I hope you like the aesthetic, and I’m open to suggestions if you wish to make any.
Another thing that you may have noticed
is a branding makeover, which has been gradually happening for the last couple of months. It has been planned for a while though, it was a matter of obtaining the domain which held me up. Why though you may ask? The site started off as an archive for posts I was doing for other people and other sites, and when peterskitchen started, it was due to the kindness of others, and I was covering a lot of different news and OS’s. When I moved to my server, of course the domain went with me, and the site tagline was “All Things Mobile and Technology, Bizarre, Mainstream and In Between”, that left a lot of scope for what subjects I could cover.
In 2010 I moved to Windows Phone, and really haven’t looked back, I went Microsoft native so to speak. The time for change became obvious earlier this year when linked to from a couple of other Windows Phone sites, that made mention of the unlikely/ misleading branding. So time for a change, and most of that change, is now in place, and I have to give Kudos/thanks and appreciation to my friend @mobilenova who has done the graphics, logo for me. It really defines the site.
Hopefully AusWinPhone will continue to grow from here covering local and international Windows Phone issues and news, and reviewing applications for Windows Phone. AusWinPhone is one of very few sites locally that reviews Windows Phone applications, and will continue to do so in the future. Of course there is still tweaking to be done so if you notice any problems, especially with hyperlinks or categories that seem to be truncated, you can use the contact form to let me know.
In the future I hope also to bring on some more writers as committed to he Windows Phone ecosystem as I am, to extend coverage and keep you, the reader informed of what’s happening. It is an exciting time for the OS with big changes, and new devices just around the corner, hopefully we can keep offering current content in a timely manner on the site.
If you are interested in getting involved, writing for the site, please contact me via the contact form on the site.
This is the first of what may be many changes coming up in the future of the site, and anything that happens will be detailed on this page.
Till The next Update 🙂
